Car/Bike

A Week or More Sans Posts

by Nocturnal_Nick on Feb.17, 2010, under Car/Bike, Events, Personal, Qantm/School Related

Righto. First of all, I live in Brisbane now. It was one hell of a trek if I’m honest, punctuated with a bell curve of instances of country-ness culminating in an illuminated “Jesus Saves” sign, next to KFC. While I have no specific problem with religion or Jesus in particular, it just seems to correlate with the distance from any major city center.

That aside, the trip was fairly uneventful. Mostly because the hilly terrain prevented the truck from being able to speed up past the point where anything eventful happens :-P . A slight hill meant I was overtaken by truckers, and a downhill meant putting the gearbox into eco mode.

Upon arrival, I’ve immediately applied for and waited (without patience) for my DSL2+ to kick in. When telstra finally gave into TPG’s requests for activation, it was like ingesting 16 red bulls in 20 minutes; unhealthy but EVER SO EXCITING!! I’ve now set up remote uTorrent access so even sitting here, at Bubbles cafe in Brisbane city, I can ad, remove, or generall manage my torrents. All completely legal, of course, just nice to be able to start your home server PC downloading something from the other side of the world.

As for transport, seeing as my bike is still having issues (or at least I presume it is, given I haven’t actually started it in several weeks) and my car isn’t the cheapest thing to park mid-city, I’ve been using the public transport. Initial observations suggest it is significantly cheaper and faster than Sydney’s, but then I live a good deal closer to uni, and there’s not a river from Matraville to Qantm.

What else, what else… I was paid back by a number of people through the bond returned t my former hosuemates. Saved my ass, though I don’t have a job yet! I’m fairly confident I’ll at least get an interview at a JB that’s looking for workers, and I’ve distributed my resume to a number of places around various convenient centers, though nothing has arisen yet.

And finally, I’m sorry this post isn’t accompanied by any images, video, or links. Like I say, I’m at a cafe and my steak just arrived, so I’ll sign off now.

Edit: It was friggin delicious :-)

The keg etc (3rd attempt)

by Nocturnal_Nick on Jan.22, 2010, under Car/Bike, Personal

So having tried to post this three times now and each time failing due to one reason or another, here I am typing a summary.

1. Had a great night with a Heineken mini-keg. Lots of fun, the same value for money as a case, and less rubbish to throw away later :-P
As a result of that night of drunken fun, I I’ve realized a few things.
Teriyaki chicken medallions are probably the worlds best drunken food. They were incredibly tastey, and very easy to defrost/cook. (Igham brand, in case anyone was wondering)
And that Better off Ted is a great show. I’m sure there were more, but as I say i was drunk, and it’s been a few days :-)

Second topic on discussion today would be the fact I’m writing this in a bank que (sitting down these days, awesome!) waiting to close out my final payment on my car loan :-) Wooo! No more fortnightly repayments of $272!!! That’s an extra $136 a week I’ll have for something else! (saving I spose)
I seriously cannot wait :-)

And the last topic I’ll mention is that I’m moving to Brisbane in a week!! I can’t wait until I get to stay in one city for longer than 5 days :)

Car washes and travel plans

by Nocturnal_Nick on Jan.21, 2010, under Car/Bike, Events

So I’m sitting in the crystal car wash cafe, chilling with a friend as my car gets washed. There’s almost no feeling better than having 10 people all paying their utmost attention to making sure your car is clean :-)

That said, it’ll likely be dirty again by the time I get it to Canberra and back, though I’ll be happy until then :-)

Adventures on the 18th

by Nocturnal_Nick on Jan.18, 2010, under Car/Bike, Gaming, IT/Gadgets

Today was a day full of audiovisual “fun”

Beginning with a few episodes of QI, then some Borderlands with Chris, followed by a trip to the mall to buy nerf guns (Which don’t seem to be available anywhere at the moment :-( ) we found ourselves inside a tv/av repair store picking up a fixed HD recorder.

Shortly afterwards Faith came around and Chris and I installed her headunit.

First of all, if you’re to install a new wiring harness in any car, PLEASE PLEASE use the stock coloured wires! It just makes a lot more sense to the person installing the new one! Aside from that hiccough it went quite well, everything’s plugged in and working well (including an iPod adapter the glove box) and Faith‘ll come and pick the car up, hopefully overjoyed :-)

After an hour of Borderlands (getting quite into it again) we’ve gone and partially installed the DVD/TV/HDD recorder at Chris‘ dad’s place.

Now Jamison (pulling in now) for dinner then home for more games :-)

Oh and my Car is ready and waiting to be picked up. I’ll do so tomorrow morning :-)

A while without Posts

by Nocturnal_Nick on Nov.07, 2009, under Car/Bike

So I haven’t posted for a while, and thought I had some time now as I sit next to two mates, kept up by the incessant copying of their own music and film, with their written permission.

So. I’ve still been doing the back and forth from Canberra to Sydney still.

I’ve had some issues with my car. Or actually not the car itself, pretty much the RTA. The garage in which I passed my registration test got audited. The RTA came around and checked stuff on the car and found, lo and behold, my engine had grown 400cc in the last couple of days. Fancy that! So yeah, more expense, yay!

Not a good week financially :-(

New Toys

by Nocturnal_Nick on Oct.14, 2009, under Assignments, Car/Bike, IT/Gadgets

Back again and, as usual, spending more than I really should. In the last couple of days I’ve managed to order more than $200 of stuff from Zazz and Catch of The Day.

From CotD I’ve just ordered a 22 piece towel set (’cause the GF stole my first good luxury towel, insisting I gave it to her) and because I’ll likely sell the majority of the set off to housemates, saving some dosh. That and a stand for my PC’s tower, gotta give it some cooling :-)

My Zazz purchase was a set of 2 way radios by Digitalk. While not the TOP of the range, they do expand to allow microphones/headsets, of which I have 3 throat microphones for use on the bike (One each, obviously). There seems to be a fair bit of interference with wind etc in the throat mics though, so I’m thinking of getting the optional motorbike helmet set, which actually installs into a helmet (making for a more comfortable and easy communication system.)

As I was finding the links for those I was tempted by the 1.5″ photo frame and desktop alarm/clock for $9.95 :-( Its cool, but do I really need it?

Speaking of things I need, I’ve got my car’s rego due towards the end of the month and I haven’t got much cash at the moment, so I REALLY hope the inspection goes through ok :-P

Anyway, back to my “essay writing”.

Long time no Post

by Nocturnal_Nick on Oct.12, 2009, under Car/Bike, Gaming

Right, well as I sit in my class paying the utmost attention I find myself hearing things that that I’ve heard before.

And so here I am folks. Reason for no posts has been a combination of illness and addiction to Left 4 Dead and Supreme Commander.

I know that its been a while since either game was released (L4D 2 is out almost everywhere and SupCom has a sequel in development with Square Enix :-) ) but they are part of the set of games I missed out on because I was concentrating more on cars etc.

I bought some Shift jeans (kevlar infused thread) which mean that riding my bike in anything warmer than 20 degrees is now comfortable. I’m wearing them now, in fact, and I recommend them to anyone on two wheels (Draggin Jeans are another, more expensive, option)

Over the last couple of weeks I’ve co-bought a couple more vehicles too, Jared’s Bug Jive scooter, and Richard’s Yamaha Virago (currently in QLD). Both are a bit of a relief .cause it means they’re now self sufficient in transport. Speak of the devil, Jared’s just arrived complaining of hitting every red light. Unfortunately he can’t quite GET to 80 km/h, so he can’t really use the Eastern Distributer (the more efficient/less lights route).

I Love FD RX-7’s

by Nocturnal_Nick on Sep.26, 2009, under Car/Bike

There are very few cars I’d have over my MR2. Price aside (thus excluding the old “I’ll sell this Ferrari and get my MR2 back” work-around) my MR2 stands in a very select group of cars I’d have.

If you understood the above, read on. Otherwise, go to school, or read slowly and phonetically until you do.

The FD RX7 (pictured) and a Honda NSX are the other two :-)

On The Bus

by Nocturnal_Nick on Sep.25, 2009, under Car/Bike, Personal

I’m writing this as I sit on the bus to Canberra, bored out of my mind. Usually these buses are almost empty, or at least empty enough that I get two seats to myself, meaning I can spread out a little.
Not this one.
There’s only one seat free, the middle back aisle seat, meaning I have to keep my legs straight and shoulders in for the whole trip. It’s not all bad though, the weather’s really nice, clear skies and sunshine :-)

Kinda thinking I should have just brought my bike. Sure, I’d have to concentrate the whole way, but at 110 on two wheels you’re too scared NOT to concentrate :-P

Anyway, I think I’ll grab my eeePC out and watch/do something on that for a bit!

Last Day of The Week

by Nocturnal_Nick on Sep.25, 2009, under Car/Bike, Tutorial Work

Yet again I procrastinated doing some tutorial work tonight/today, having felt that productive swim was enough for a while. That said, I have a 3-4 hour bus trip in the near future, so I’m enabling Windows 7’s power saving mode and turning down the screen brightness a little so I can get that done on the way there.

That is, if I can even get a bus at all. Having left booking a ticket to the last minute as well, I have found the Murray’s web booking site to be down. Not fun, given the alternative is to ride my bike, a prospect I’m both excited and unsure about.

Well, I’ll post again sometime tomorrow (today).

PS: I realise that no-one reads this. But meh, it’s here for sake of completeness, and I figure I have hosting and a domain, I might as well use it :-)
